Description

Largely remodelled by William Macbeth (Ross and Macbeth,
Inverness) in 1907. Large asymmetrical baronial house with
tall, square tower at angle. Mainly 2 storeys with attic to E
wing; tower 4 storeys with caphouse of corbelled angle turret
rising to 5th floor. Rubble built with ashlar dressings
except part of E wing harled.
Tower: entrance on S with decorative doorpiece and scrolled
pediments oculus on S face, turret corbelled above ground
level, corbelled to square at 3rd floor, crowstepped
caphouse; variety of windows crenellated parapet with large
gargoyles 3 crowstepped gabled bays to 1st with large neo-
perpendicular 4 light mullion and transom window with 4 small
lights below broad lower mullion, stained glass 2nd bay with
2 storey canted window 3rd bay (?1907) with decorative door
and full-height circular angle turret wing to SE 1st bay
rubble, remaining elevation harled, 3 wall-head pedimented
dormers. All windows with 1907 glazing, plate glass lower
sash, multi-pane upper. Slate roofs, coped stacks.

Statement of Interest

Earlier house on 1871 OS. Additions for William Beard-more,

Baron Invernairn of Stathnairn, lived at Flichity 1907-1955.
