Description

Thomas Telford, 1825. Modified standard Parliamentary T-plan
design. Rubble, tooled ashlar margins, harled east gable.
Paired centre depressed arched windows with smaller windows
in outer bays (north elevation, facing road). Similar large
windows in east and west gables and in east and west
elevations of rear wing. Flat headed entrance in SE
re-entrant. Lattice glazing in Y-tracery with transom.
Standard stone cross at east gable apex and bellcote at west;
unusual stone ridge stack in rear roof; later ridge
ventilator; slate roof.
Interior; simple re-cast interior. Burial ground. Simple
burial ground with large table tomb to Lady Ashburton of
Rosehall (Sutherland)

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such. Quod Sacra parish of Kinlochluichart disjointed from Contin in 1864. Windows

smaller than usual Parliamentary church design. Similar rear

entrance in Strathy. Parliamentary Church, Farr Parish,

Sutherland. Church of Scotland Manse. Original H-plan single

storey one of 2 standard Telford Highland Manse plans (as

Strathconon, Contin Parish.)
