Description

17th century, rubble beehive cote, 4 stages defined by
rat courses; circular apex flighthole. Original entrance
appears to be that in east side of cote, with later tall
narrow doorway slapped at SW. Tapering interior lined with
stone boxes from floor to apex, those from floor to height
of approximately 6' (1.83m) blocked and smoke blackened.

Statement of Interest

Cote appears to have been used as a kiln at some period

possible for fish smoking. This would explain the smoke

blackening though not necessarily the second doorway.
