Description

F D Robertson, architect, dated 1875, additions, J D
Corrigall, Keith, 1905. Rambling, single storey school
with French Gothic detailing. Harled, polished ashlar
margins and dressings. Entrance in centre N elevation under
Gothic ashlar gablet with incised decoration in base of
advanced tower with paired Gothic lights in 1st stage and
bellcast truncated spire. Flanking 2-light pointed-headed
windows under gables with further incised decoration in
tympana. Similar fenestration in S elevation; also paired
square-headed windows with shaped margins; various oculi.
Decorative cast-iron apex finials; coped end and ridge stacks;
piended slate roofs.
Low coped rubble walls surround school and playground.

Statement of Interest

Monogram BPS on E gable (Botriphnie Public School). Tower

above entrance would probably originally have terminated

with decorative cast-iron brattishing. 1905 additions

included a gymnasium donated by a patron.
