Probably E J May of London, architect. Dated 1901.
Asymmetrical Edwardian single storey lodge, gatepiers with
renaissance details. All red ashlar.
LODGE: stugged coursers, polished dressings. Steep,
swept-eaved slate roof with (dated) banded large axial stack.
Arcaded open porch at SE corner; canted mullioned and
transomed S-facing window to driveway beyond key-blocked
circular light. Mullioned and transomed window in E flank and
in N wing; walled court adjoins latter and links to harled
modern porch in W re-entrant angle. Blocked wide eaves.
GATEPIERS: 6 tall corniced and finialed square rusticated
ashlar piers linked by low quadrants with wrought-iron
railings. Massive inner piers have consoled tall obelisks,
elaborately ornamented wrought-iron gates.
Originally associated with Jardine Hall. SAVE pub LOST HOUSES
OF SCOTLAND, 1980 notes work at Jardine Hall by E J May,
1893. Fourmerkland house not included in listing.
