Description

Built 1810/30. Symmetrical medium-scale country house with
low flanking wings, 2 storeys with basement, built against
slope. Coursed rubble with ashlar margins and continuous base
course.
N ELEVATION: 5 bays, the inner 3 grouped; fluted pilastered
central doorpiece (platt spans railed basement); panelled door
with sidelights and decorative fanlight all below segmental
archway; sash windows with 12-pane glazing pattern; 2-window
wings slightly advanced (central door on right wing).
S ELEVATION: 4 bays. Symmetrically-placed stacks (in unusual
arrangement at main house) with cavetto cornices. All roofs
piended and platformed with graded slates.
INTERIOR: some good cornice plasterwork; panelled doors in
architraves.

Statement of Interest

Said to have been built for Duke of Buccleuch.

William Stark was employed by the Duke of Buccleuch until

the former's death in 1812.
