Architect probably William Burn, circa 1840. Asymmetrical
single-storey cottage, roughly L-plan, with rear (west) wing
and complex roof plan. Stugged and squared pink rubble with
ashlar dressings and hoodmoulds; some windows mullioned. East
elevation: advanced gable with tripartite right, gabled porch
with depressed-arched door projects from re-entrant angle,
left bay blank; single-bay end wall of rear wing deeply
recessed right, saw-toothed skews; apex and rear wall-head
stacks with ornamented flues; slate roofs. Rear wing has
asymmetrical north-facing wall-head gable at north east angle.
Mostly sash windows with lying-pane glazing.
Copies in NMRS of plans and elevations, mostly dated 1841,
for double cottage at Drumlanrig bridge in similar style to
this cottage, with similar flues. B group with Drumlanrig
Bridge.
