Auchmithie village stands on an elevated site over-looking the North Sea. It is irregularly planned and consists of simple uniformly designed fisher cottages generally dating from the 18th century, some rebuilt in the 1860's. Regrettably, most have been much altered in recent years (1992). No longer a fishing village Auchmithie is also of historical interest as the "Musselcrag" of Scotts' ANTIQUARY.
