The 1859 OS map shows Marna as a lodge at the South entrance to Mauldslie Castle which lay across the River Clyde to the north. In the garden to the SE stands a carved stone dated 1887 displaying the strapwork initials JWH and the figure of a seated dog. Such features can also be found on the lodge to Mauldslie Bridge, slightly further downstream, (see separate list description).
