Description

19th century. Single storey and loft steading. Random rubble with droved ashlar dressings. Straight skews.

4 segmentally arched cartsheds with loft openings aligned above, to W. Cattle court to E end, with 3 infilled feeding windows, and sliding timber doors. Irregularly spaced openings to courtyard, with alterations, including later single storey brick lean-to addition, with corrugated-sheet roofing. Hexagonal horse mill to S, with later interior additions, including barrel-vaulted, brick-lined squinch, serving adaptation to engine power; square rubble and ashlar base of later chimney stalk at NE re-entrant angle, with base-rings of shaft adjoining to E.

Graded grey slates and pantiles with easing course; cast-iron rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

B Group with Dalmeny Kirk, 1-3 (inclusive) Easter Dalmeny Cottages, Gospatric House, 1-6 and 9-15 (inclusive) Dalmeny Village Main Street, Dalmeny Village Telephone Kiosk, Dalmeny Village War Memorial, 1-4 (inclusive) Wester Dalmeny Farm Cottages and Wester Dalmeny Farmhouse (see separate listings).

The steam engine is quite unusual, but its juxtaposition with the earlier horse mill provides a good example of the evolution of power sources on a farm.
