Rubble-walled enclosure with tombstones from 17th century,
some good 18th century examples. Gatepiers 1833,
session/offertory house with ball finial and diagonal shaft
chimney 1837, churchyard enlarged after 1866 on demolition of
old school.
B group.
Dunning Village is still relatively unspoilt. Few of the
houses have architectural value beyond pleasing vernacular
proportions and due to the softness of the local stone
necessitating much retooling and renewal. They are difficult
to date but most seem basically of late 18th and early 19th
century date. Maintenance has in places been neglected and a
few houses have unsuitable modern finishes, but thanks to the interesting and picturesque layout of the village and the
dominating central position of the Romanesque church the
village has considerable group value.
