Description

Dated 1768. 2-storey, 3-bay farmhouse with cellar, later wing and porch to E; standing on natural terrace. Harled with ashlar dressings; base course, and eaves course punctuated by 4 wooden blocks, probably ends of principal rafters, and rusticated quoins.

S ELEVATION: door to centre with dated keystone, quasi-Gibbsian surround and diamond glazing to strip fanlight. Windows flanking at ground, 3 windows at 1st floor. Lower, recessed 2-storey, 2-bay wing adjoining at right with modern gabled porch; panelled door with glazed surround. Bipar tite to right, further single windows at ground, 2 windows to 1st floor.N ELEVATION: irregular openings, door to centre altered; now lower, to cellar stair. Lean-to harled outhouse addition to wing.

W gable wall with 2 windows at ground, 1 window to right at 1st floor. Sash and case windows, predominantly 12-pane glazing pattern, some plate glass at rear.

Grey slates, straight skews. Harled stacks, those to main house with shlar dressings and decorative cans.

INTERIOR: retains half-round stair to vaulted cellar.

GATEPIERS: rubble drum-piers to E, red sandstone polygonal piers to W adjoining coped garden walls.

Statement of Interest

Remains of 18th century steading within garden to S with low row of drum-piers suggesting cartsheds. Lectern dovecote survives intact, listed separately. New steading, built in 1822 lies to SE; listed separately, now in separate ownership.
