Description

Charles Landale and Matthias Dunn, engineers, 1831. Single arch road bridge over former railway. Rubble construction, bull-faced voussoirs, large rubble coping stones. Round-headed arch; parapets splayed at aprroaches.

Statement of Interest

The arch has been partially filled in and is used as a garden shed. The Dundee and Newtyle Railway was opened in 1831, and with the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway was the earliest railway track in Scotland and the first to carry passengers. In 1860 the section from Rose Mill to Auchterhouse was realigned, by-passing Balbeuchley and Pitpointie, thus trains ceased to pass under this bridge.
