Circa 1820. 2-storey, 3-bay schoolhouse with single storey, 2-bay wing to E. Drystone rubble walls with long and short dressings and quoins, gables with straight skews.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: doorway at centre; single window openings above and at both floors in bays to left and right. Paired door openings in left bay of wing, small window in bay at right.
E AND W GABLES: blank.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: single windows off-set to left at ground and first floors, infilled doorway at ground to right. 2 windows in wing to left.
Coped apex stacks to gables. Interior gutted with only fireplace openings and adjacent presses surviving.
BOUNDARY WALLS: flagstone rubble walls extending to E and W from gables, and enclosing areas to S.
This building was used as the parish schoolhouse on Bressay until the early 20th century. Its current roofless state (1996) displays well drystone building technique in the famous Bressay sandstone.
