Description

Earlier 19th century with later alterations, probably incorporating fslightly earlier house. 2-storey and basement, irregular-plan. Picturesque country house. Stugged, snecked and coursed squared rubble, some plastic repairs, ashlar dressings, piended and gabled slate roof. Base course, margined angles. 2- and 4-pane sash and case windows, many now with out-of-character frames in modern materials, chamfered ashlar margins painted at front elevation, some with hoodmoulds or slab canopies. Deep bracketted eaves with decorative bargboards, corniced stack 3-storey tower with corbelled and crenellated parapet.

N ELEVATION: gable advanced to centre with single window to ground and 1st floor; flat-roofed, pilastered and corniced entrance porch to right re-entrant angle with panelled door, fanlight and window; window to main elevation recessed to right, 2 small pointed windows to 1st floor; tower to left re-entrant angle, square plan with door and window at ground floor, octagonal at upper floors with windows; window to main elevation recessed at left, gable dormerheaded window above.

W ELEVATION: window to ground and 1st floor left, slightly advanced gable to right with door to basement, window to ground and 1st floor.

S ELEVATION: gable advanced to centre left, corbelled canted window to ground floor, bipartite to 1st; recessed bya to left, window to basement, tirpartite window with slab canopy to ground floor, gable dormerheaded window above; considerably recessed bays to right, door to basement, 3 single windows to ground floor with later door, window and gable dormerheaded window to 1st floor.

INTERIOR: not seen.

GATES, GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: 2 painted ashlar gatepiers with mannered caps, wrought-iron gates and footgates; rubble boundary wall.
