Early 19th century. Single storey, 4-bay entrance lodge (3-bay original with near contemporary single bay addition to NE). Squared sandstone rubble with droved ashlar dressings; chamfered arrises and painted window margins.
SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: boarded door to centre of 3 bays with small pane fanlight above, window flanking; crowstepped skews and beak skewputts, ball finial surmounting gable to right; lower single bay addition to far right with crowstepped skews and beak skewputts.
SW ELEVATION: gabled end with central window, crowstepped skews and beak skewputts; ball finial surmounting gable.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: later lean-to addition concealing original elevation.
NE ELEVATION: not seen, 2002.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Gabled grey slate roof with zinc ridging. Painted cast-iron rainwater goods. Double stone stack with cope and paired cans off centre left on main building, single stone gable-end stack to later extension.
INTERIOR: not seen, 2002.
GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: square-section ashlar piers with plain pyramidal caps and whitewashed pal stones. Boundary walls: rubble with gablet coping, later repairs.
The North and South Lodges to Oxenfoord Castle were regarded as ornate structures designed to be seen by visitors to the castle. The Middle Lodge is plainer and its gate was designed to be used by general traffic for the castle.
