Description

Early 19th century, probably incorporating earlier house.
2-storey, T-plan house with main entrance front facing E.
Harl pointed rubble, harled rear; tooled ashlar dressings
(some margins painted).
Centre door in E front under later continuous slated verandah
supported by wooden pilasters. Tripartites in ground floor,
3 small 1st floor windows in centre (probably 1st floor
windows of earlier 3-bay house incorporated in present
lodge). 3-bay fenestration to wide S gable. Projecting
harled T wing at rear with some later windows; later 19th
century 2-storey addition at N includes 2-storey drum tower
with slated conical bell-cast roof.
Mainly multi-pane glazing; symmetrical ridge stacks to
piended roofs, centre pair and that at rear placed horizontal
to ridge, outer pair straddle ridge; slated roofs.
Various wings at rear, including W facing 2-storey, 3-bay
house probably originally a separate dwelling. Interior;
little of interest survives, though wall thicknesses in front
E portion indicate earlier 3-bay centre core.

Statement of Interest

IN 1839 Glenshero was the shooting lode of Mr James Evan

Baillie of Kingussie and Glenelg. It was described as "not

so large a plan" (as Ardverikie). Interesting T-plan main

E facing block.
