Description

Probably early-mid 19th century, rectangular south facing cruck
framed stable and byre, with further, later and smaller
range, sited to rear at right angles. All rubble, with some
mortar and renewed pointing.
Byre and steading with round angles heightened at wallhead by
concrete eaves course, with pronounced triangular corbels at
angles to accommodate present corrugated iron roof (replacing
former thatch). Roof piended at west but gabled at east.
Diminutive wallhead stable window to rear; small triangular
vents to byre in both north and south elevations.
Simple, lower single storey gabled range to rear, with further
small gabled extension at north gable; weatherboarded south
gablet, possibly replacing former turf gable; 3 entrances;
corrugated iron roofs.

Statement of Interest

Snowburn House not included in listing. Close dating of

traditional vernacular buildings difficult. Unusually

complete survival of simple steading range once common

along shore of Loch Eil.
