Mid 18th/early 19th century with additions and later 19th
century conversion to shooting lodge; mid 20th century
alterations and additions to north elevation. All harled with
ashlar margins.
South elevation; 2-storey house, wide 3 bays with centre
entrance with decorative circa 1800 fanlight, now masked by
late 19th century glazed and gabled timber porch; to right
early 19th century tripartite; to left late 19th century
canted bay window. 5 symmetrical windows rise through
wallhead under decorative bargeboarded gables; end stacks;
slate roof.
Long low single storey and attic wing at west gable; also
harled with ashlar margins checked for shutters (some shutter
hooks survive); boulder footings. 6 bays with asymmetrical
fenestration, lattice glazing; 1 window now door approached
by flight steps. 3 small early 19th century piended dormers
with 2-pane casements; slate roof.
Projecting modern wings to north entrance front.
Datestone inscribed WILLIAM M OF ROSS 1748. Braelangwell
"the picturesque summer residence of Sir Charles Ross of
Balnagown" in 1840. Various alterations in 1809 and 1812
by James Smith, Architect (and carpenter), designed of
Rosekeen Church, 1830.
