Description

Ross & Macbeth, 1901. Small chapel in courtyard at north-

west corner of ruinous Courthill House approached through

arched pend. Harled rubble, tooled dressings. 3-bay nave with

entrance in south-east and single bay chancel under square

tower with single windows in north and west elevations with

blind panels above, string course, moulded eaves cornice and

steeply pitched piended slate roof. Small single storey,

2-bay vestry links tower chancel with arched pend. Slate roofs. Interior; plain interior; Romanesque chancel arch; stained

glass windows in memory of various members of Murray family.

Marble bust of lady by H Weeke signed and dated 1848.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such. Chapel and vestry

only listed Courthill purchased by C.J. Murray, MP from

Dugald Stewart in 1882.

Chapel founded by Lady Murray in memory of her husband,

Honble, Sir Charles A Murrayu KCB, PC, and son Cecil Henry

Murray, died 1895 and 1896 Chancel window dedicated to

Alasdair Murray, killed in S.Africa, 1900. Also small window

to Elspeth Murray, 1881-1885.
