Description

Harbour; 1849; rebuilt, 1882; harbour complex of 4 basins;
flagstone rubble masonry with some modern rendering. Small
octagonal lighthouse with domed lantern; 2 storehouses
abutting one another, both rubble with rubble dressings.
Western store of 3 storeys, 6 symmetrical bays; abutting
west gable second storey of 2 storeys, 6 bays, both with
corrugated asbestos roofs.

Statement of Interest

Apparently the western part of the store ranges served partially as a salmon fisherman's bothy until after World War 2, and the eastern part as a herring fishing station, reportedly with separate ladies water closet at the end of the building.
