Description

U plan square consisting of 3 separate ranges, each of
different date. 2 ranges have their long sides facing north/
south, and at the head of the U, the centre range has west
facing facade.
PRINCIPAL SOUTH FACING RANGE, seen across park from castle,
consists of 2 storeys (with later dormerheads) and 7 bays.
Red coursed rubble with cherry pointing, random rubble to
rear. Polished ashlar dressings. Centre octagonal clocktower
with tall octagonal spire topped by weather vane dated 1790.
Keyblocked arches on six sides of tower, four being louvred.
Clock face to north and missing from south.
Centre arched opening centre, probably to carriage house
(now blocked by modern porch). Outer bays slightly advanced
with gables and moulded eaves and strong courses suggesting
pediments. 3 ball finials to each and blind arches, each
containing window. Small windows at wallhead (one dormerhead)
with deep moulded eaves course. Slate roof. Rear elevation
has 2 later swept dormerheads and porch. WEST FACING RANGE
circa 1820 (facing road from castle), tall, 2 storey 9 bay,
each of 3 bays divided by giant pilasters which rises from
ground level to slightly above wallhead to moulded encablatures
bearing squat draped urns. Coursed cherry pointed rubble,
ashlar dressings. Centre carriage bay blocked by large
modern farm door.

West facing range gutted internally but lunettes that

ventilated stables to east visible.
