The group includes four upright memorial stones. The earliest is dated 1614 and has a heraldic shield depicting three birds. There are three table tombs, one dated 1704 and a recumbent slab. Several of the stones survive in excellent condition with legible inscriptions and symbols of mortality (memento-mori) including winged angel heads, winged hourglasses and profile skulls with crossed bones, carved in high relief. The memorials predate the construction of a newer church, on a site 1km to the west, in 1766.
In accordance with Section 1 (4A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997 the following is excluded from the listing: scheduled monument SM3106.
The old church once associated with the burial ground has been largely demolished. The only upstanding part of the church is a burial aisle. This structure is a scheduled monument (SM3106) and is excluded from the listing.
Statutory address and listed building record revised in 2017. Previously listed as 'Kirkurd Old Church'.
