Description

Probably late 17th century. Substantial rectangular coursed
pinned rubble dovecot on S facing sloping site with long
elevations E and W. Centre entrance in E elevation with some
re-used dressings.
Small square vent in centre S gable.
Slab rat course encircles building just below wallhead;
piended slate roof, repaired over site of former centre
ridge cupola.
INTERIOR: lined throughout with 594 stone nesting boxes
commencing 4' above floor level.

Statement of Interest

Similar to Ballindalloch Castle dovecot dated 1696.

Site much overgrown.

Dovecot served 17th century tower house of Wester Elchies,

now demolished.
