Dated 1828 with circa 1840 porch. 2-storey and attic,
3-bay S-facing house with slightly set back single
storey, 3-bay wings at each gable. All rubble, harled at
gable ends; tooled and polished ashlar dressings.
Centre entrance fronted by substantial circa 1835-40
single storey 3-bay ashlar porch (style of William
Robertson of Elgin) with bays delineated by Doric
pilasters. Narrow centre entrance with modern
double-leaf doors flanked by wide windows with margined
multi-pane glazing and with panelled aprons and deep
ashlar basecourse. Re-set armorial in tympanum flanked
by pair narrow inscribed datestones resting on cornice
ledge.
2 later 19th century canted dormers in outer bays; 12
pane glazing to main house, 9-pane to wings. Coped end
stacks; local slate roof.
INTERIOR: beaded panelled window shutters and doors;
moulded door surrounds. Former dining room with buffet
recess and delicate plaster decoration to ceiling and
cornice.
Datestones appear to have been removed from house front when
porch added, and placed on tympanum ledge. They are inscribed (L)
'Built An Dom MDCCCXXVIII' and (R( 'Alexander Hay and Anne
Burges' who in 1842 where the only resident heritors in the
parish.
Edintore was owned in 1798 by John Gordon of Greshop, Forres as
'the inheritance of his remote ancestors for many generations.' Substantial late 18th or early 19th century barn, now much
altered, sited at E of house; not included in listing.
