Description

Dated 1559 and 1681, incorporating early work. S facing
house comprising 2 2-storey blocks, the principal at E with
irregular 5-bay much altered fenestration. The earlier and
lower block is set back at W gable of main house with
2 ground floor and 3 very small 1st floor windows below
eaves. Modern harl, few ashlar margins now visible. Entrances
in centre rear of both blocks, the principal being in
projecting 2-storey gabled porch with narrow doorway above which
is set (circa 1950) armorial dated 1559.
Off-centre garden door in main S front with small blocked
window to right with chamfered margins; modern bipartites in
outer ground floor bays; enlarged 1st floor windows in outer
bays. Multi-pane glazing.
Cavetto skewputts at NW and SE with carved masks; at SW with
(Innes) stars. End stacks; slate roofs.
INTERIOR: modernised ground floor drawing-room at E with
re-set long carved stone lintel dated 1681 with initials,
armorial and decorative floral details.
SCREEN WALL: at E with archways to service cottage and garden
and set with armorials dated 1928 and 1963.

Statement of Interest

Home of Innes of Edingight. John, 1st Laird obtained lands

of Edingight in 1559 from Kinloss Abbey; John, 5th Laird is

thought to have built L-plan house in 1681, the wings of

which have been demolished but which are shown in 19th century topographical painting in possession of present owner. 1681

lintel carved with initials II for John Innes and IH for

Isobel Hamilton, his second wife.

Mid 19th century mansion, Edingight House, demolished circa

1970 and former mains re-named Edingight House. Modern

armorials commemorate marriages of present owner and his parents.
