Description

Probably circa 1878. Single storey and attic L-plan lodge
with Jacobean features. Stugged red ashlar with polished
dressings. Canted ground floor window and single attic light
to north and to west gables, corbelled wide eaves band
between treated as parapet; gabled and finialed porch in
re-entrant angle with north-facing door below rope-moulding.
All main gables finialed, with shaped crow-steps. Dormer
on north wall. Axial stacks with curved ends: slate roof.
Square, red ashlar gatepiers, narrowed below pyramidal
caps: decorative cast-iron gates and railings: curved low
quadrant walls: wall to south taller, with 2 blind slits.

Statement of Interest

Lodge & gatepiers each inscribed 'CJ' (JC?) Duncow stables

are dated 1878, and this lodge is likely to be contemporary.
