Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay former manse with single storey offices to rear. Limewashed with stone margins. Stone mullions.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: dominant advanced polygonal-roofed canted bay to centre with canted window at ground, panelled timber door on return to right and single window on return to left, jettied 1st floor with canted window and narrow window to each return; flanking bays each with single window to each floor and diminutive dormer window.

W ELEVATION: broad gabled bay to right with window to each floor at outer left and gablehead stack. Asymmetrical fenestration to lower bays adjoining at left.

E ELEVATION: gabled bay as above with windows to left at ground and to right at 1st floor, lower bays to right with door to right, small window to centre and bipartite to left, further gabled bay to outer right.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: variety of elements to rear elevation including lower advanced gables and panelled timber door to piended projection at right.

4-, 8- and 12-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Coped limewashed stacks with cans.

BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIERS AND GATES: coped rubble boundary walls with ball-finialled circular rubble gatepiers and 2-leaf ironwork gates.

Statement of Interest

Formerly known as 'Alverhind' ; manse for the nearby Parish Church of Ettrick and Buccleuch which is listed separately at category 'B'.
