Built 1596. Fell into ruin. Restored by Sir Robert Lorimer 1911-12. L-plan. 3-1/2 storeys with laigh floor. Square stair tower in re-entrant angle. Circular tower at NW salient angle. Random rubble. Corbie-
step-gabled. Stone-slabbed roof. Dormers. Fine entrance enriched with dog-tooth ornament, with inscribed lintel dated 1596; Panel over also highly enriched. Servants wing and Library wing (over pend and connected to keep by loggia) added 1911-12, both 1-1/2 storey.
INTERIOR: Red Banner Hall and Boudoir notable; also Library, Oak Room, Elm Room.
Replaced nearby Dubh Loch Castle (Inverary) as seat of MacNaughtons. Passed to Campbells of Ardkinglas in earlier 18th cent. Acquired by Sir Andrew Noble, of Ardmore as part of Ardkinglas estate c.1905.
