Dated 1753. Random rubble. Slated roofs.
BLAST FURNACE: Central chimney (wide fireplace with iron lintel inscribed "Bunawe 1753") brick at top.
STORE HOUSE: Coursers in front with 2 pointed doorways.2 OUT-BUILDINGS for charcoal and ore.
WORKERS' HOUSES:
NE workers' dwellings: Rubble, part harled, slate roofs. ONLY ROOFLESS PART IS SCHEDULED.
SE workers' dwellings: 1 1/2 storey row (Lochandu Cottages). Rubble, part limewashed, slate roofs.
Guardianship Monuments (not the workers' houses, although the roofless part of the NE cottages is Scheduled). Built for Lancashire Company which leased adjoining birch woods and imported iron ore from Furness to be smelted with charcoal and cast into pig-iron. Closed 1866 or 1874.Scheduled 23 February 1998.
