Interesting and ancient seat of the Crawfurds of Crawfurdland.
Built at different periods, centre part is a Gothic castle
style mansion of circa 1830-40; tall centre square tower,
battlemented parapet, machicolations, round, corner turrets;
interior hall and stair, groined plaster ceiling; stained
glass and heraldic features in large pointed window above
doorway. West wing of mansion incorporates an old tower,
three stories in height, above which is the open parapet
carried on continuous corbellings, and simply rounded at
the angles, without projecting bartizan; above this is the
roof, with crowstepped gables, and higher still the caper-
house over the staircase. East wing, known as the King's
wing, is 17th century; crowstepped; 2 storey; random rubble,
partly patched with harling; contains a fine ornamental
ceiling displaying Royal Arms dated 1648, in square panelled
rooms on 1st floor
