Description

Later 19th century. Single storey U-plan school building with attached single storey and attic schoolhouse to W. All squared whinstone rubble with polished red sandstone rusticated quoins and dressings.

SCHOOL: symmetrical S elevation with 4-bay centre flanked by advanced gabled end bays. 2 bipartite windows to centre flanked by doors, (that to W now part blocked and converted to window), outer bays with bipartite windows. All 3-light sash windows. To rear single storey rendered extensions.

SCHOOLHOUSE: 3 + 1 bay cottage adjoining School at E, right bay with tall bipartite window with gablet head. Central door with timber gablet porch, panelled door with 3 pane fanlight. Flanking this, bipartite windows, sash and case with plate glass glazing. To attic, 3 timber gabled dormers, timber bipartites with small pane glazing. Both have good graded slate roofs with deep overhanging timber bracketted eaves, coped end and axial stacks with tall square cans. Louvred vents to school and decorative downpipes. Rubble boundary wall to schoolyard and schoolhouse, cement pointed to roadside.
