Description

Campbell Douglas, 1870. Single storey, irregular-plan, Baronial-style lodge with later extension in compatible style. Bull-faced snecked rubble, grey slate roof, decorative ridge tiles (plain at extension). Plate-glass sash and case windows, moulded and chamfered reveals, crowstepped gables, gable stacks.

S ELEVATION: modern door with moulded doorcase to entrance tower at righ re-entrant, blank panel above, string course, wallhead course, finialled conical roof; bay to right wih window breaking through eaves with cat-slide roof; advanced bay to left with bipartite window to bowed angle right, crowstepped gable with blank panel rising through corbelled wallhead parapet; later bay to far left slightly recessed with 3 windows.

WALL, GATEPIERS AND GATES: round-coped rubble wall to E, 2 massive flat-topped round-section gatepiers, rubble-built with corbelled wallhead course; 2 decorative wrought-iron gates.

Statement of Interest

Greystane Lodge is probably contemporary with Greystane House (now Swallow Hotel), dated 1870, listed separately.
