Later 19th century. U-plan steading unusual for its timber construction. Concrete base, vertically boarded on timber frame, slate roof, overlapping ventilation slates to S and E pitches. Piended roof to N range, gable ends to S of E and W ranges.
N ELEVATION: 2 doors to centre, large entrances to left and right,
2 rooflights.
E ELEVATION: 2 cart entrances to centre, door to left, 3 rooflights.
S ELEVATION: recessed bay to centre, swept roof over feeding troughs, large triangular rooflight; gable advanced to left, opening to ground and 1st floor; lower gable advanced to right with door.
W ELEVATION: door and window to right, blank bay slightly advanced to left.
INTERIOR: apparently little altered layout; timber and concrete trevises and hecks.
OUTBUILDING: rectangular-plan outbuilding to N, concrete frame, boarded and concrete walls, open slate roof; large corrugated metal roof lean-to to W.
This steading is unusual on account of its being of timber construction upon a concrete base, in appearance resembling amongst others, agricultural buildings of North America. Built by the Rossie Estate, it is prominently situated on the brow of a hill, and in an increasingly dilapidated condition. The single storey cottage to the eat is dated 1879, and not listed. The steading first appears on the 1900 OS map.
