Description

Circa 1815, Robert Forrest for Colonol Robertson of Hallcraig. Stone sculpture, about life sized of highland chief on tapering stone plinth with moulded cope. Inscription on plinth reads 'This statue was erected at Hallcraig Lanarkshire year 16.11 L/ght Col Alexander. Removed from hence to Ayrshire on 10th of May and placed here on the 8th June 1861.

Arthur W Robertson Cunninghame removed from ? to West Toun on 16th October 1929 by his Great Grand Daughter Alfreda M Greenshields.

Statement of Interest

The first full-sized figure sculpture made by Forrest who was a prolific and successful sculptor until his death of 1852, latterly working in Edinburgh.
