Description

Probably late medieval (south harbour) and 19th century (north harbour).

SOUTH HARBOUR: curved drystone quay wall, with massive blocks marking quay edge, on the edge of a rock outcrop.

NORTH HARBOUR: two angled mortared stone quay walls, forming a basin for small craft.

Statement of Interest

The south harbour is listed for its relationship to Portencross Castle. It was probably built to serve the Castle. The north harbour was built to serve the fishing station established at Portencross in the 19th century, and is listed as a well-preserved example of small-scale provision for the Clyde fishing fleet.
