Description

David Aitken, 1787-88.
Clock dated 1788. Mid 19th century incorporating earlier
central features, 2-storey, 7-bay entrance block to former
square with flanking single storey, 3-bay wings. Sneck coursed
rubble, tooled ashlar dressings. Tall segmental headed
entrance with rould-headed window above set in shallow
pediment. Flanking 3-bay dwellings with centre doors and
taller ground floor windows; outer single storey, 3 bay
piended wings with wide round-headed entrances and windows.
Central octagonal timber cupola set on square weather boarded
plinth with facetted domed slate roof and gilded weather
cock. Louvred round headed arcaded openings to cupola; black
painted clock face with gilded lettering in centre south
face with diminutive segmental headed pediment above.
Symmetrical ridge and end stacks; slate roofs.

Statement of Interest

Outer wings were probably farm workshops, possibly smithy,

though no chimney survives.
