Description

1801-5, additions circa 1825. 2 storey over raised basement, 3 wide bays; coursed cherry-pointed rubble, ashlar

dressings and quoins. Slightly advanced and pedimented central

(south) bay, centre door with sidelights and fanlight,

corniced portico borne on pair Roman/Doric columns

approached by steps. Original 4 wide bay side elevations,

with later 3 bay shallow projecting wing to west. Cill and

lintel bands to 1st floor windows; 12-pane glazing; blocking

course; symmetrical corniced ridge stacks; piended platform

slate roof.

Interior: entrance and upper stair hall with Doric columns.

Statement of Interest

Present house on older site; built by William Mackintosh,

who made a fortune in India. Estate passed to second William

Mackintosh in 1822, who made further inprovements and alterations.
