Description

Late 18th-early 19th century, 2-storey, 3-bay south facing
house. All harled. Centre door masked by later square porch
with side entrance, front window and piended slate roof.
Later enlarged ground floor windows; original 12-pane glazing
in 1st floor windows. Projecting wing to rear with lean-to
extension in re-entrant angle. End stacks; Caithness slate
roof.
Interior; in kitchen (ground floor, right of entrance) a
framed lintel of 17th century chimney piece with centre coat
of arms of Sinclairs of Ulbster (probably from earlier house
on site). Simple drystone wall encloses garden to south of
house.

Statement of Interest

Listed for historic association with the Sinclairs of

Ulbster, now Lord(s) Thurso. Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster

1754-183<> instigated the STATISTICAL ACCOUNTS of Scotland,

1790.

Family Mausoleum stands in burial ground to south of house.
