Description

3-storey Keep with jamb built on a rock in earlier 16th century. Random rubble. Corbie-stepped cape-house. Slated roof. Pedimented dormers. Crenellated parapet to allure. 4-storey and garret wing added to jamb in 17th century. Interior: vaulted 1st storey. Other storeys entirely modernised. Stair tower in re-entrant angle, extensions to rear, offices and stables to south are 19th century. work.

Old list 131.

Acquired by William, 6th Lord Livingston, 1588. Restored in 19th century. after being roofless for many years. Converted into apartments at the end of the 20th century.

Listed building record updated in 2020 to refer that the castle had been converted into apartments.
