Late 18th century with later repairs. Stone shaft
(replaced 1954) set on square base of 3 weathered steps
and larger block, chamfered at corners. Moulded neck and
urn finial to shaft; 4 identical painted shields (of the
Tweeddales) clasping the urn.
While a cross has remained on the present site for 2 centuries,
the continual repairs suggest that it has effectively been
renewed. The Tron was placed on Fair Green to S, now gone,
and the wellhead is sited close to the cross, to W (listed
separately).
