Description

John Smith 1840 as Buchanness Lodge for Lord Aberdeen. Simple
classic marine villa, granite ashlar, S. front 2-storey
3-window, centre projects with consoled and block pedimented
doorpiece inscribed PROCVL NEGOTIIS BEATVS, asymmetrical. W.
wing set back with single storey flat-roofed section (windows
of which have been remodelled) in set back. Asymmetrical E
front to sea, canted bay on S. later bay window on N. Low
pitched broad-eaved roof. Good cast-iron work at clifftop
terraces.

Statement of Interest

Formerly the Earl's Lodge Hotel; currently to be restored (1993) following fire several years ago.
