Dated 1850. Small village library. Single storey,
rectangular-plan, vernacular, 3 bays with large 12-pane
sashes to south, porch with datestone and south-facing door
adjoins east gable. Whitewashed rubble with contrasting
painted margins; straight skews; end stacks; slate roofs. 2
plaques on south wall (see notes).
Interior: fitted bookshelves to 3 walls, with cornice at
coved ceiling; book collection is of great social interest.
Partly enclosed by plain rubble-built walls.
Upper plaque inscribed "Wanlockhead Library instituted
1.11.1756" (one of the earliest public libraries in
Scotland).
Second plaque (bronze) a memorial to Robert Reid (1850-1922)
author.
