John Jardine contractor, Messrs MacLauchlan, Gatelawbridge, masons, Samuel Bell, joiner. Built circa 1843. Former Free church built on sloping site. Plain rectangular-plan with lower (?)vestry adjoining west gable, west-facing flat-arched cartway at basement level alongside. Rubble-built with ashlar dressings; painted margins to tall, round-headed windows (these mostly now blocked). Gabled red ashlar porch with round-headed doorway central on north wall and off-centre at west. 5 windows on north wall 4 on south wall, 3-light east gable windows (bronze ?) birdcage belfry over west gable with tall weathervane finial. Slate roofs.
No longer in ecclesiastical use. Duke of Buccleuch would not grant a site for a free church and the best available site proved to be this sloping, roadside garden plot. Virginhall congregation joined Morton
UP in 1924 (3rd Stat. Acc. p.188).
