Description

Quadrangular burial enclosure around hillock; now
extended to west and to south. Original enclosure:
rubble-built walls and corniced square gatepiers, latter
at west end, and flanked by rectangular-plan burial
plots, that to south built of coursed, squared rubble
(other enclosures all rubble-built with squared
dressings). Burial place of John MacCodrum, Gaelic
poet, (monument circa 1894); Clanranald enclosure near
summit dated 1768. Some unworked head stones; carved
monuments mostly 18th-20th century; free-standing cross
with central boss, arms damaged.

Statement of Interest

West and south additions not included in listing. Some

stones described in RCAHM INVENTORY 1928. (no 162) Ref.

to MacCodrum's monument in S.R.O. HR 538/1.
