Mid 19th century. 2 storey, 3-bay house. Roughly coursed
rubble with harled gable end. Entrance elevation; central
door with 1 window to right, 1 window in each upper, outer
bay. Elevation to the Green: 2 windows symmetrically
placed in each storey. Coped end stacks, slate roof.
Balfour Village makes a B Group.
Col. Balfour advocated the improvement of the island
of Shapinsay in the mid 19th century. All houses, cottages
and steadings were erected to plans approved by Col.
Balfour.
