Circa 1835 with some later 19th century additions. 2-storey with attic, near-symmetrical, gabled villa. White painted harl with honey-coloured sandstone dressings and margins. Band course marking basement; strip quoins. Bracketted eaves.
S (GARDEN) ELEVATION: 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical block with advanced gabled bay to outer right. 3-bay block raised to gable over centre bay, window in gablehead. Windows symmetrically disposed; all architraves with block pediments at ground. Cast-iron steps to door, barley- sugar wooden balusters; 2-leaf door with 6-lying-pane glazing and lower panel, 4-pane fanlight. Slate-hung, gabled dormers symmetrically placed above 2 end bays. Advanced gable to outer right; full-height sandstone bow window, dividing consoled eaves cornice.
Gabled, wooden verandah to right with cross patterned balustrade.
E ELEVATION: timber verandah on rendered base (see above); entrance at E side, continues as single storey bay along full-length of house, window to outer right. Shouldered arch doorway; 2-leaf door, upper glazed. 2 windows to outer right at 1st floor.
W ELEVATION: gable with windows at ground and 1st floor to outer left; basement door at ground outer right, modern inserted window above.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: main block raised to gable at centre, window; bipartite stair window to left above flat-roofed scullery in re-entrant angle between outer gable and house, door and window to N with window in right return. Windows asymmetrically arranged at ground, door at centre shortened to window. Advanced gable to left, large window at centre, modern door at right. Single storey gabled bay to outer left,
window at centre.
12-lying-pane glazing; plate glass to bow. Grey slate roof; shouldered, coped wallhead stacks.
The house is shown on the 1st edition map. The house is now known as Torbaan, Auchenlea having been adopted by the 1980s house to the NE of the house.
