Designed by Brown and Watt, part of the original Oldmill Poorhouse complex opened 1907. 2 storeys, and in H-plan lay-out. Pair parallel and symmetrical long ward blocks, each designed to contain 80 patients, and comprising 3 ranges the centre part taller, and almostdonestic in character wings with paired pavilions at each end, those at north and south terminals square and parapetted, with tall stacks and steep pyramidal roofs, canopied iron-railed balconies at 1st floor and modern fire escapes. Distinctive glazing pattern, windows small-paned casements, upper panels with diamond shape detailing. Centre administration block linked by low corridors is villa-like, with 2-storey 3-bay L-plan south front, centre entrance behind over-sized modern porch arched recess above containing window; canted windows either side, multi-panes glazing, windows mostly sash and case, covered stair on E flank. The restraint wards were at 1st floor level at this range. Ward blocks linked at north end by long and low modern wing (General theatre and x-ray) which is excluded from listing.
