"Built by J Jackson, 1852" (inscription). 2-storey terrace,
stepped to slope. Houses mainly 2-bay with paired
pilastered doorcases (No 1 (nearest W) with pend to W; shop door
and window at E end and 1st floor bipartite); further 2 bays
and paired doorcase to Solway Street (1 door blocked). Stugged red coursers
with polished dressings and architraves; variety of glazing
patterns (original 12-pane, some modern); eaves band;
cavetto cornice; end stacks; slate roofs.
Set behind small gardens (except at E end) with low boundary
walls, gatepiers with pilaster detail. Pilasteral and corniced gatepiers.
The inscription is carved on a panel above the paired doors to Nos 11 and 12. The existence of No 10a as a whole house avoided the inclusion of a No 13. Nos 11-13 Church Street (listed separately) flank the terrace and share the pend to W. Cumberland Terrace is an unusually detailed and dignified terrace, evidently providing prestigious homes when built. The predominant original glazing comprised timber sash and case windows with 3 pane upper sashes over 6 pane lower, with slight effect of border glazing.
