Robert Paton, 1845-1860. 2-storey, 36-bay palace block of 7 pairs of mirrored houses (outer pairs and central pair form slightly advanced pavilions). Ashlar to entrance elevation; channelled at ground floor. Base course; central band course dividing 1st and 2nd floors; eaves course; cornice; blocking course (to Nos 1, 2, 7, 8, 13, 14); aprons and architraves to 1st floor windows.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 4-bay to outer and central pavilion paired houses; central square-headed doorpieces; timber doors; letterbox fanlights; 2 single windows aligned above at 1st floor; advanced outer bays; tripartite windows at 1st and 2nd floors. 6-bay to intermediate paired houses; central square-headed doorpieces; timber doors; letterbox fanlights; 2 single windows aligned above at 1st floor; regular fenestration at both floors to remaining bays.
Predominantly 6-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof (piended to Nos 1, 2, 7, 8, 13, 14); corniced ridge and wallhead stacks; polygonal cans.
INTERIORS: not seen 1998.
BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: low coped boundary wall encloses site to W elevation; canted square-plan gatepiers to outer left and right.
An imposing classical terrace, standing behind walled open space, set-back from Alloway Place. The terrace draws upon a classical architectural style as displayed in the buildings opposite in Alloway Place, and informs the design for 1-4 Barns Park (see separate list descriptions).
